They’re finally here! The Class of 2022 arrives on campus and our lenses are out there capturing all the first-week fun. We’re excited to meet the newest members of the Duke community and we look forward to seeing all they will accomplish during their time here at Duke.
“I always consider the first-year move in day the most exciting and most important day of the year. The second most important ... is commencement. Some people think of it in reverse but I think move-in day is something that is memorable.”
- Larry Moneta, Vice President for Student Affairs, on the 50th anniversary of his own first-year move-in day and the last one of his career at Duke
“Just have fun. You only have one first day ever and it’s unforgettable. So just hang out with your friends, have a good time, don't forget to say bye to your parents and really just have a great day.”
- Jesse Lowey, First-Year Advisory Counselor, Duke Class of 2021
“I’m pretty excited. This is the first time I’ve been in a completely different state from my parents. So it’s a super new experience and I’m sure I’ll learn a lot.”
- Sunrita Gupta, Class of 2022
“We are excited and sad at the same time.”
“We want him to be himself, succeed and have the time of his life.”
- Parents of a first-year student
On the first night in their new home, the Class of 2022 gathers to be welcomed by students, faculty and staff.
“My word of advice to students is to relax, take a deep breath and recognize that you are going to have to work hard. That's what it's all about. But you're here because you belong here. You belong in the Class of 2022.”
- Sue Wasiolek, Associate Vice President for Student Affairs & Dean of Students (aka Dean Sue)
President Vincent E. Price welcomes the Class of 2022 to a new academic year on the floor of Cameron Indoor Stadium.
“It’s not really about you. At least, not about you alone. Our measure in life will largely be what we are able to do together.”
- President Vincent E. Price

The Arts are woven into everything at Duke—and sometimes they are neon. On the final night of Orientation Week, the new students enjoy a night of fun and an early look at the latest exhibition at Duke’s Nasher Museum of Art, People Get Ready: Building a Contemporary Collection.
